Motorcycle Time Attack uses the oldest structure in arcade racing and it still works: you start with a small amount of time, every checkpoint adds more, and the run ends when the clock reaches zero. There is no crash to avoid, which changes the psychology completely — the enemy is the timer.
The road throws corners, chicanes and narrowing sections at you, and cornering is grip-limited, so the fast line and the safe line are different. Time added per checkpoint shrinks as your run goes on, so a pace that was comfortable at checkpoint three is not enough at checkpoint twelve.
That escalation is the design. Every player finds the checkpoint where their current cornering ability stops being enough, and improving means finding time in corners rather than on straights.
Pass as many checkpoints as you can before the clock runs out. Each gate adds time, and each gate adds a little less than the one before.

On a phone: Steering on the left, throttle and brake on the right.

A drag strip where the only input is your gear change. Shift in the green band or lose the run.
Three laps of a city circuit against four rivals. Off the racing line means off the podium.
Roadblocks and spike strips ahead, pursuers behind that close in every time you slow down.
You do not crash out. Hitting a barrier costs you speed and therefore time, but the only way to end the run is to let the clock reach zero.
So the difficulty escalates without needing to make the road unfair. It means every run ends at the point where your pace stops improving.
The section order is generated, so no two runs are identical, but the corner types are drawn from a fixed set you will come to recognise.
